Michael is a globally recognized, award-winning leadership development expert. His work creates tools, systems, and practices which build leadership capability across organizations. The organizations he has led have consistently received the highest level of honors from the Association for Training & Development and Chief Learning Officer magazine. He is a sought-after speaker, author, advisor, and consultant to global leaders and their organizations seeking to build their learning and leadership development capability. 

Background and Experience

From 2009 to 2024, Michael served as chief learning officer at New York Life, a Fortune 100 company. They are also the largest mutual life insurance company in the United States (US) and one of the largest life insurers in the world. Prior to joining New York Life, Michael spent 12 years in London, where he was head of learning for UBS Investment Bank from 2005-2009 and Deutsche Bank from 1998-2005. Before holding these roles, Michael was North American head of learning and development for Reuters. He has also held senior learning and organization development roles at AIG, Citibank-Smith Barney, Shearson Lehman Brothers, and Drexel Burnham Lambert.

Michael has acted as an independent consultant and coach at Fortune 100 companies in the US and Europe. He has written and contributed to several papers on the topics of executive coaching, leadership development, and organizational culture. Michael is the co-host (with Gregg Thompson) of the podcast series “The Edge of Leadership” and is the founder of what is now the largest Little League Baseball program in Western Europe. Michael lives in New York City and Barnegat Light, New Jersey.
