Client Need
A small private equity firm had grown rapidly through multiple acquisitions across infrastructure, real assets, and private credit. The CEO, anticipating potential turnover post-earn-out, asked for a deeper understanding of leadership bench strength across the newly acquired businesses. The Head of Talent engaged Berman Leadership to design and execute a comprehensive executive assessment program for the top 30 leaders below the executive team.
Context and Approach
The firm had expanded quickly and needed insight into the leadership capabilities of executives inherited through acquisitions. They weren’t just assessing for development—they were assessing for readiness. Berman Leadership created a senior leadership competency model tailored to the PE environment, blending commercial, operational, and leadership dimensions.
Assessments were completed by a small team of experienced consultants with deep financial services expertise. Reports were written with care—developmental but direct—knowing the CEO might make quick judgments based on brief comments. Every executive received an individual debrief, followed by a four-way development planning meeting.
With strong early impact, the firm now plans to extend the program to the top 100 leaders over the next 3–4 years.
